REVIEW: Papa Johns on Wells Rd & Blanding Blvd in Orange Park, Florida

In the past I have enjoyed many orders from this establishment. Especially their wings and how well they do their specialty pizzas. I enjoyed many of them around the time of Hurricane Irma.

But lately I've noticed a bad change in their employees and customer service.

Last night (10/1/2021) at 10:31pm I was checking my mail. I was only maybe 6 inches out in the street looking into my mail box. At 10:32pm, a white car (4 doors), sped by me. It had a Papa Johns topper on top of it. It almost hit me. It was driving too close to the curb. It seemed to speed up a little bit just before it mowed down some ducks. In the distance I thought I heard someone yell. I didn't think anything of it until this woman and her dog were walking by. The woman asked if I saw anything and mentioned the car almost hit her coming around the corner. I told her what happened thus far and I only heard her yelling very faintly. She told me she tried to call Papa Johns to make a complaint, but she was told "We don't have anyone here like that." and she was hung up on. She wished me a goodnight and continued walking her dog.

When I went back inside I got my phone back from my older kitty (Little Puss), whom was sleeping on it, and called Papa Johns. I spoke to a female manager. She told me that they don't have any employees there that have a white car. She slammed the phone down.

Now fast forward to today. In the middle of the afternoon I called Papa Johns again. I thought I might have better luck with another manager. I mean, what are the odds that two would try to protect that driver? Apparently GREAT. The call didn't go well. I was very polite, even when he was very rude. He told me that the things that go on top of the cars all have GPS trackers. The first time he mentioned it, his exact words were "There's GPS on all car toppers and my driver was not speeding last night.". Right away, but politely, I called him out on the fact that he made that determination after speaking with me for hardly a few minutes and not obviously having enough time to gather and verify that information. I asked why he would cover for him. I asked simply and plainly. He went on tiny rant saying how records "will be sure to show" that he wasn't speeding. He then repeated back my number and address, since caller ID automatically pulls it up since I have ordered before. He told me not to order anything anytime soon or I won't like what I get. Then he told me if I wanted to have a good day to drop it and not call again. His last words he said to me were, "Goodbye, you sound like a n**g*r.". He said it sort of low as if he was avoiding the risk of anyone hearing him.

A friend of mine that I talked about this with has told me I shouldn't have called that Papa Johns, but should have just complained directly to corporate itself. The point made was now they have time to do what they can to cover their hides. That was the moment I thought back to what that manager said when I called today; "will be sure to show". Also I thought back to how quickly that manager seemed to make the judgement that driver was not speeding. Combine that with attitudes received. Heavy implication that  things can and might be changed to feign innocence. I wouldn't doubt it since 2 managers at that establishment have shown they're not above covering up employee wrongdoings, if they can, and making veiled threats.

This use to be such a great place to order from. The food is likely still as great as I remember, but it isn't worth dealing with their customer service when they are wrong and you are right.

EDIT

UPDATE#1: Received a message from "Director Of Operations" of the Jacksonville and Orange Park Papa Johns restaurants, "Nick Arturo", messages me to defend the actions of the driver mentioned in this blog while refusing to acknowledge the veiled threats and racist remark by the 2nd manager I spoke with.

UPDATE#2: Ran into someone that knows "Nick Arturo" that apparently had a bad experience with him. I got the impression he's cause this woman much grief.

I so use to love picking up food for us there when I'd visit you. Next time, it will be from some place so much better.

The managers are covering for that driver. The lie to protect them. The 2nd one makes a veiled threat with what they said after speaking your phone number and address. What is so special about that driver for them to do all this?

This does not surprise me in the least my husband and I ordered from them last week. 2 hours went by and we did not hear a door knock. We did not hear from the driver or Papa John's. As we were about to call the restaurant, a neighbor informed us that there was a pizza box left upon the ground by our front door. Our pizza had ants on it.

I called the establishment at Blanding and Wells. I was left on hold. When someone picked up, we were told to hold on only a little longer.

This kept happening over a period of 3 days.

Just as well. This incident and the one you described is why my once a week ordering shall be done elsewhere.

My supervisor at work and read your blog. To show his support, the next sizeable pizza order they make will come from elsewhere.

Their answer to resolution is a racist remark? Even though I'm white, it is offensive to me because I despise discrimination of all kinds. Also because I have alot of black friends.

Why do those people pick and choose who to be a**h**es to?

I have heard stories about bad customer service regarding that particular Papa John's, but this takes the entire cake. Racist remarks, veiled threats, careless drivers. Wow!

The driver is probably well liked among the staff.

I only got food from that Papa John's once. They were nice to me, but rude to my friend Ty when we picked up a pizza. He got nasty looks from the manager. Ty asked if he offended him. His reply "You people don't offend me". He sounded like a closet racist to me. Why did he say "you people" and not just "You"?

Next time, complain directly to corporate and let corporate come down on them. Now that Papa John's has time to change evidence and come up with whatever believable sounding story they want.

Papa John has been in the news for racism before, I think.

The manager probably made the racist remark after a frustrating day, but it doesn't make it okay. It also hints at some racism in his heart.

That would be the smarter way to go.

I agree. When it comes to those who use racist remarks and behave like that driver, it's best to call/write corporate.

Don't expect Papa John's to care. They pretend to, but they don't. They are like some corrupt realtors. They will do whatever it takes to cover their a**!

Papa Johns doesn't care. They're defending the driver.

I just got a private message via the Next Door App from a "Nick Arturo". It appears he's just taking his word for it and leaving it at that. Also he does not even mention "the veiled threats the manager made by repeating back my number and address, because the caller ID pulls it up since I have ordered before, and said I shouldn't order anything anytime soon or I will not like what I get". AND.....let's not forget the fact that he said "Goodbye, you sound like a n**g*r.".

So it seems like veiled threats and racist remarks is okay with Papa Johns and "Nick Arturo". I see him and Papa Johns likes to protect drivers and management when they're guilty of bad behavior they can easily cover up.

This is "THE FINAL NAIL IN THE COFFIN" for me regarding Papa Johns. I want nothing to do with them. What kind of person protects a manager that makes veiled threats and racist remarks? What kind of person defends a driver that purposely mows down ducks and lies about it? I find it very disappointing that "Nick Arturo" is director of operations

When businesses defend wrongdoing of their employees and/or try to cover it up and affected people speak out. Sometimes harassment and/or intimidation can occur. To prevent and curb such behavior, upon myself.....I am blocking "Nick Arturo" on any social media that I am on. If anyone contacts me on his behalf, I will do the same. Normally it would be the adult thing to do to discuss a matter, but I refuse to discuss this matter with someone completely ignoring the fact the manager made veiled threats and a racist remark. While I am white, I take high offense to racist remarks regarding any race. We are all part of the human race and their is never excuse for racism or racist remarks. Those who defend and/or  ignore the fact that someone made a racist remark are just as bad as the one who made the racist remark.

Oh hell no! Someone who ignored racist remarks is just as bad as someone saying them. Him also ignoring these veiled threats says alot about him. I'll show my cousin Xavier in Jacksonville. I doubt he will want to order from Papa John's again.

So never ordering from any Papa Johns again. Oh, I found Nick Arturo on Facebook. I blocked him. If you haven't blocked him already, tell me. I'll PM you his Facebook so you can block him.

I hope you don't try to contact the Director of Operations for the area. He just showed our @CaptainVG313how little he cares about issues.

After what I read by @CaptainVG313 here, don't count on anything being done about it.
